Volume 40. Latina Futures: Transforming the Nation Through Law and Policy

The Chicanx-Latinx Law Review (CLLR) at UCLA School of Law invites scholars, graduate students, practitioners, and impacted Latinx community members to submit manuscripts and personal narratives for our upcoming volume: Volume 40 — Latina Futures: Transforming the Nation Through Law and Policy.

We seek submissions that will uplift our diverse Latinx communities by highlighting today’s 21st-century legal challenges and opportunities through a Latina viewpoint. To this end, we are considering pieces on the following topics:

  • Affirmative Action

  • The Impact of COVID-19 on Latinas Abortion Rights

  • Access to Abortions

  • Racial Profiling and Police Abuse in the Latinx Community

  • Immigrant Rights and Immigration Issues

  • The Impact of 21st-Century Media, Communications, and Technology on Latina’s Full Democratic Participation

  • Increasing Access to Law and Justice for Latinas

  • Challenges in K-12 Education for the Latinx Community

  • LGBTQIA+ Issues

  • Latina Lawmakers

The theme of this year’s publication directly mirrors the Latina Futures: Transforming the Nation Through Law and Policy national January 20-21, 2024 symposium to be held at UCLA and hosted by UCLA’s Latino Policy and Politics Institute, CLLR, Latina Lawyers Bar Association, and UCLA’s Chicano Studies Research Center. Volume 40 will serve as a vehicle to continue crucial thought-leadership developed within and beyond the symposium.

Submission Guidelines

As one of the first and only law journals of its kind, the UCLA Chicanx-Latinx Law Review has published exceptional, innovative, and impactful legal discourse impacting the Latinx community for fifty years. When evaluating work for publication, we look for timeliness, depth of analysis, clear writing style, and use of authority.

To be considered, a manuscript must be: double-spaced (including footnotes), use 12-point Times New Roman font for the body of the manuscript, 10-point Times New Roman font for the footnotes, and include 1-inch margins. We have a soft cut-off of 15,000 words with footnotes. Please note that there is no page minimum page requirement. However, it is recommended that the manuscript be at least 10,000 words to allow for sufficient legal analysis. In addition, CLLR encourages submitting a resume and a cover letter.

Please submit either by email at cllr@lawnet.ucla.edu with “CLLR Volume 40 Submission” in the subject line, or via Scholastica here: https://scholasticahq.com. CLLR will select pieces on a rolling basis. The deadline to submit is November 1, 2023, at 11:59 PM PST. If you or others have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us.

Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to reading your submissions!
